Ugg × Claire Tabouret

UGG is an American company that was founded 42 years ago by Australian surfer Brian Smith (thus the public assumption that UGG is an Australian company).  UGG is part of the Deckers group that owns other outdoor and athletic footwear brands.  The price point of UGG places it in a mainstream marketplace with a broad customer's basis. This makes a collaboration with an artist very different from luxury brands.  In recent years, the image of the brand is undergoing a transition: California is a central theme, focusing on individual stories, strong engagement with social issues, and diversity of the models.

"To provide deeper storytelling around Claire Tabouret, her artwork and the partnership with UGG®, the artist proposed an unrehearsed recital featuring dancers Spenser Theberge and Jermaine Spivey choreographed in the moment by Tabouret and acclaimed choreographer Dimitri Chamblas.  As the collection from the collaboration drew inspiration from Sitting and The Soldier, the performance was influenced by recurring themes of Tabouret’s paintings in which intertwined bodies create tensions and emotions. The filmed performance celebrates the intense interactions between the two male dancers, delivering a sensuous, abstract and intimate perspective on the beauty of movement. In the creative space of Tabouret’s own art studio, the presentation was photographed by esteemed photographer Frederic Auerbach,  filmed and produced  by Manuela Dalle and Jean Martin .”
