Slow Show installation
Conceived and choreographed by Dimitri Chamblas, Slow Show epitomizes an immersive, collective dance performance that emanates nuanced impact, characterized by minimal, precise, and concentrated gestures.
The global journey of Slow Show has traversed diverse locations, with each iteration presenting a unique ensemble of approximately 50 participants from all walks of life, spanning various ages and backgrounds, attuned to their immediate contextual milieu. Accompanied by a mesmerizing soundscape and musical composition by musician, artist, and DJ Eddie Ruscha, this 20-minute performance transcends linguistic boundaries, communicating through the language of movement and sound.
Slow Show Installation converges upon an assemblage of 18 filmed portraits poignantly depicts participants during performances held in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), Arles (France), Minneapolis (USA), and Charleroi (Belgium). Collaboratively captured by Dimitri Chamblas and Manuela Dalle, these evocative moving images capture the essence of the Slow Show experience, imbuing the space with the residue of collective memories.
Here, visitors find themselves immersed in an interplay of submerged blue lighting, known to induce a calming state in the human brain, harmoniously interwoven with projections of ethereal bodies adrift in the visual expanse. These captivating visuals move in tandem with a site-specific soundscape. The inclusion of a reclining structure within the exhibition space encourages viewers to recline, slow down, and embrace a shared experience that transcends the constraints of conventional temporality.
Slow Show Installation was first presented in Zurich, Switzerland at LUMA Westbau in and afterwards in LUX Scène Nationale in Valence, France, both during 2023. It has also made its appearance in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles and the California Institute of the Arts Campus.
