Kim Gordon
& Dimitri Chamblas Performance

Dimitri Chamblas joins forces with “one of the boldest women in rock” (The New Yorker) musician/songwriter/visual artist Kim Gordon for an intimate and highly experimental evening of improvisatory music and movement. Premiered at the American Swedish Institute’s Turnblad Mansion, the performance invited audiences to explore the new ASI exhibits and engaged in an immersive, open-ended journey. The evening featured ASI’s signature hospitality and developing collaborative work by the masterminds, both of whom have historically flooded their fields with distinct innovation and originality.

Each iteration of the duo is unique and the tussle between two bodies searching for a common language always answers and transcends its context. Gordon and Chamblas have created something organic that requires an innate trust between collaborators to pull off effectively in order to give the audience a vague and powerful story through their movements. This performance reminds us of the idea of sonic consciousness developed by Pauline Oliveros. Her thinking echoes both the relationship between these two performers and with their audience through the unique experience they offer.
